Strong, energetic, and challenging, Yoga Strong combines traditional yoga postures with fitness movements for an amazing full body workout. Classes focus on the development of strength and mobility rather than flexibility.

Traditional yoga classes often emphasize flexibility to the point of injury through over-stretching and overstraining the ligaments and tendons around the joints. Students are instructed to move into poses too deeply or too bendy and stretchy for what is healthy and sustainable for the body. Yoga Strong instead focuses on building strength around the joints, creating stability while at the same time creating an ease of movement and mobility in one’s body. The yoga poses are carefully chosen and modified to follow the body’s natural anatomical movements.  Added to this are the functional fitness movements which include squatting, lunging, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting. 

Each class begins with centering and grounding followed by core exercises and moving into some basic yoga postures. Class then picks up speed and heat by integrating squats, lunges and pushups throughout the yoga poses. The peak of class is a section of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) that may include faster squats, lunges or burpees to get the heart pumping and then right into a balance posture while the heart rate is still up to really give the body a challenge. Moving down the other side, class goes back through some yoga flow into an active warm down and final mediation.

Together the yoga and fitness movements create a sustainable and strengthening practice that leaves one feeling energized and centered, powerful and peaceful.

  • Free for Gym Members
